Question by blingding: How can you reduce snoring in your sleep?
My brother is sleeping right now and is snoring louder than a donkey. Recently he’s been asking me if he snores too loud, and I wonder if I snore as well. What causes snoring and how can you prevent it?

    sometimes people cant breathe right when they are lying on their backs or their stomachs so ask him to roll over on his side or even tomorrow ask him to fall asleep on his side it helps alot i get many complaints because i snore very loudly so just roll him over or wake him up and ask him to :)

    Snoring is caused when the airway is obstructed causing vibrations and/or sounds to occur. There are many elements that could be the source of the obstruction such as weight gain around the neck area, stuffed/clogged nose, or other conditions such as a weak throat that closes during sleep.

    To treat snoring most physicians advise weight loss, stop smoking and may have the patient wear a special dental appliance to help reduce the condition.

    If you believe it’s something more serious and notice that he is missing breaths while sleeping he may need to be evaluated for sleep apnea. This can be diagnosed by a simple sleep study test.

    When you fall asleep the muscles in your mouth and throat relax. This causes snoring in some people when the muscles as the air passing through your nose cause the tissue in your nose and throat to vibrate.
    Try sleeping on your side or stomach to get rid of the snoring. Sleeping on your back is usually the worst position for people who snore. If you still have a problem, you can try a “Breathe Right” strip over your nose, throat spray, a snore pillow, etc. Google those snoring remedies for more info if you can’t get rid of snoring.

    Get a Slumber Guard.

    It’s a mouthpeice that your brother can place in his mouth while he sleeps.
